I've been optimising my Algarve property site using this forum as a guide for about a year. What I have done seems to be working with the other search engines, the site is currently ranked first on yahoo for the search term Algarve property.
But on google it rarely makes it onto the first page although I did make it to position 6 for a day last week. Its usual position is at the top of the second page.
The site is in the top 5 when using allinanchor and allintitle so I think my inbound links are ok. The only thing I can think of that is holding the site back is the age of the domain and the age of the inbound links.
My domain was only registered in November 2005 all the sites above me are much older. Does allinanchor take into account link age? maybe that explains the descrepency. Is it just a case of sitting it out, obviously getting more links while I wait, or is there something I have missed?

I think the age of your domain and what your domain has been used for since it first was purchased plays a factor in how google sees your site, i even think if you have your domain registered for more than one year into the future that also might play some importance as it shows that your committed to this site and expect it to still be here x number of years in the future.
But mainly, quality content, lots of backlinks from sites and lots of sites with relevant content linking to you with a variety of diffferent anchor text will help you overall.
